You’re beautiful.
These two little words can carry a lot of meaning.
A Chicago high school student, Shea Glover, asked people this question as part of independent study project on beauty.
The idea was simple. She stopped people in her school’s hallways, positioned them in front of her camera and said, “I’m taking pictures of things I find beautiful.”
Their reactions were, well, nothing short of stunning.
The video has now over 11 Million views, and has created many spin offs.
Here are some other experiments in telling people they are beautiful and the insights from the directors:
Telling People They Are Beautiful
“Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul.
Reactions to being called beautiful
I decided to make a video like shay glovers and tell people how beautiful they are.
Telling Strangers They’re Beautiful
“Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul.
The original filmmaker, Shea Glover, who is currently a student at Pace University, said in a follow up video, “It wasn’t really meant to be a compliment, to brighten people’s day, but I’m glad that that was a byproduct … I’m glad I could make people really happy. I didn’t realize that so many people don’t hear it or they don’t tell themselves that.”
“I really do live for the beauty and I find beauty everywhere, and I’m always inspired by it, really. Honestly. And that’s why I try to film it.”
